Layer Styles
The image above is of different images with all different layer styles, I will do separate annotations in each one below. Layer styles can transform objects in different ways, Drop Shadow is one of the most popular and often used of these. Firstly select a new layer and import an image into this, in the photoshop menu bar select Layer > Layer Style and this will open the options box. You can also open the layer styles box by clicking on the fx box at the bottom of the layers palette. In the screen shot below you can see the layers / blending styles boxes open.
The image below is the first of my layer styles trials. As you can see from the layer styles box this has a drop shadow, the blend mode is Normal, the opacity is set at 50%, Angle -125 px, Spread 20% & Size 10 px. All of these are easy to alter, with the slider,s or you can also highlight the individual numbers and change them that way.
This second image below you can see that I have added a Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Outer Glow, Bevel & Emboss with a Texture Fill.
This image below my third in my Layer Styles project, has Drop Shadow in red this time, Inner shadow, Outer Glow & Inner Glow in yellow .
This my forth Layer Styles image, it has Drop Shadow, Inner Glow Pattern Overlay & a green Stroke.
The above and below images, these are the same image both have, Inner Shadow, Bevel & Emboss, Stroke & A different Gradient Overlay to create different effects.
Above and below you can see different layer styles on text layers, this is very useful for many projects that I will be doing in future such as Posters & Flyers. I find the layer styles palette very easy to use and it can create very good effects to numerous different text/Font styles and images.
Layers Style Reflective Log.
- In this exercise I have been exploring Layer Styles, I have been using these for quite some time for a lot of projects that I have been doing. I have been adding Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Outer & Inner Glow, Texture & all all the other effects that there are in the Layer Styles box.
- I have learned that computers are very useful in art in many ways, firstly that you can change / alter your work in many ways that are not permanent so can be changed at any time. New computer programs are always being brought out so this is very good for the graphic designer in they are always learning new techniques for their work.
- Today's exercise has been very useful to me and I can use this in lots of future projects that I will be doing & also in my course work. I have already used this process in my work projects, I edit my car club magazine and have used this process in that and in many posters that I have done for other people.
- I have been using all the photoshop tools for some time now, however this exercise has been useful in keeping me up to date with this process. I think that I am quite competent in photoshop but everyone can always learn more.
