Layer blends using Blending modes
Layer blending modes change the way a layer is displayed (blends with another layer) in photoshop, they can be changed in the layers palette. In the top left of layers palette there is the layer blend box, this is set as Normal, click on the arrow next to it and open the blending modes box. there are lots of different blending modes here to choose from (see image below).

The above image has 4 layers set with different blending modes and opacity at different levels. To start the layers blending open an image in phptoshop, then select the image that you want to blend it with and place it over your background image and select the blending mode that you would like Hard Light, Soft Light, Linear Light are just a few then change the opacity level which you will find in the layers palette next to the blending mode box.
The above New York skyline image was blended with the wood floor image. The wood floor layer was set to a Hard Light blending mode, with the opacity set at 50%. this gives it a look as if the Skyline image is painted onto the wood floor.
The image above is another New York skyline with an image of a Sea, The sea image was set to a vivid light blending mode leaving the opacity at 100% this time.
This New York image was blended with an image of a beach with a boat. The beach layer is set to a Hard Light blend with the opacity at 70% for this one.
The above image is of a London skyline blended with an image of a Forest. The Forest layer has been set with a Hard Light blend with 67% opacity.
Above is another London skyline image blended with a Forest, this time the Forest layer is a Linear Dodge blending mode with opacity left at 100%.
